A Quick Helping Hand

The photo that captured attention on facebook.
It was probably a typical work day for Kailen Young, age 17, who works at a local Hardee's in Knoxville, TN. He was outside washing the store windows when he noticed a senior woman making her way from the store door to her car.

Kailen reports, "I opened up the door for her and when she started to walk, I saw that her car was at least all the way across the parking lot, so I decided to stop everything and help her walk to her car."

Customer David Yardley was also nearby and noticed what was happening. He snapped a picture and posted it on Hardee's facebook page. As he said about the photo, "He really impressed me in how he cared for her. And he's just very gentle and very sweet and you see that he genuinely cared for this lady."

Kailen's kind act just took a few minutes and it was one of those usual things that was typical of this teenager. And then he went on with his day, completing his work, and earning his wages. But that one quick picture and where it was posted captured the attention of quite a number of viewers, especially after another facebook user, who happens to be a newcaster, posted it on his facebook page. The sharing spiraled and before anyone knew it, several hundred thousand people had seen this one act of kindness.

And who else was watching, but the big boss at Hardee's headquarters! You can't buy that type of goodwill, and you can't buy what comes from the heart. But there was a reward of $1000 bonus for Kailen's kind act, although the young man did not act out of any thought of his own gain.

Kailen works hard in his job at Hardee's.
The money, though will come in handy for young Mr. Young. He has plans to attend college, once he finishes high school, maybe major in engineering. As for his mother? She's really proud of him. She has done her best to raise him right, and seeing that come full circle is quite a moment!

Kailen, in center, being honored for his kind act, with family, friends,  and Bobbi Clare, the woman he helped.
