Bainbridge Performing Arts has been celebrating its 60th year, |
Even though it was started in 1956, Bainbridge Performing Arts never had a specific home site until 1993 when the Playhouse was built. Now it had the performance home it deserved - and it was professional. It featured a 245-seat theater with professional sound and lighting, a perfect venue for its performances.
October 1 is the kickoff date for the fall performances of THE EDGE IMPROV. This company is known throughout the Pacific Northwest for its on-the-spot comedy. Audience members can actually become part of the comedy by making comedic suggestions. The performances have always won high praise from audience members and acting professionals.
Ken Ballenger, one of the founding performers, explains, "The name of our group came from a discussion about improvisational performing. I started to 'get it' after a horrible scene where we stood on the edge of a volcano and talked about jumping. I later realized that a scene doesn't really start until you jump. The fun, the craziness, the oddities all happen during freefall. To me, good improv is fun in freefall." Performances are the first Saturday of every month and run through August of next year. Cost is $16 per ticket.
One Night in MOTOWN makes a stop in Bainbridge on Sept. 23. Broadway stars Jarran Muse and Martina Sykes appear together for this concert performance of the music that transformed America's listening habits and put Berry Gordy's Motown on the map. The list of stars that appeared on the Motown label includes The Supremes, Marvin Gaye, Diana Ross, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, and the Jackson Five. The performance features many Motown favorites; there will most likely be singing and dancing in the aisles. It sounds like a wonderful night! Tickets are $25.00.
