A Church Collection Saves A Family

Pastor Steve Markle preaching his most recent sermon series.
It started out as a sermon at a local church in Pickerington, Ohio. Pastor Steve Markle's sermon at Sycamore Creek Church that day was about managing money and generosity, that kind of generosity that leads to random acts of kindness.

Then, the church passed around the collection plate and Pastor Steve, with the collection money in hand, ordered a pizza from the local Domino's. The deliverer that day was Natasha Boyer, who works 55 hours each week as the assistant manager at the store. When she arrived with the pizza, Pastor Steve called her up to the pulpit - and presented her with the biggest tip she had ever seen, $1,047.

As Pastor Markle said about the collection money, "Our goal was just to bless somebody's life and to show generosity, but it's being shown and a lot of people are sharing it, and we appreciate that. We want to just encourage more people to think about how they can be generous to others." He was talking about the video which the congregation posted online. It showed Pastor Markle presenting the large tip to Natasha Boyer, after she arrived with the pizza.

There were a few things, however, that the congregation didn't know about Natasha, You see, she had just been ill and was forced to take some unpaid days off to recover. That had put her behind in the rent so much that an eviction notice had been issued for her and her 2-yeqr-old son to leave their apartment. The money had arrived just in time to save this little family from being without a home. Ms. Boyer said, "They saved me. God saved me from losing my place. I mean it was truly the biggest blessing that I've ever received."

Perhaps God was in on this act of generosity. Maybe, it was intended to keep a family in their permanent home. Here's what Pastor Steve remarked, "Just to know that it blessed [her] in that way and helped somebody that had a true need - boy that means so much to us and we're just so thankful that it happened for [Ms. Boyer]."

Natasha Boyer receives her largest tip ever.
As for Ms. Boyer, she was genuinely moved by this life-changing event. It caused her to think about how to be a better person to her son and those around her. Just remember, folks, there are many people around us, who live just one paycheck from a life disaster. There is no safety net to catch them and help them to remain standing on their feet. They're raising children; they're contributing to their communities. They're not asking for help, but keep your eyes open. You never know when you'll be able to help someone in need.
