Fun Home For Kitties

Greg Kruegar is holding one of his cats, Shooting Star.
This story is close to my heart, since I volunteer with homeless cats at a local shelter and in my career as a nurse, I had a special place in my heart for people who have this type of problem. But enough about me.

This story is about Greg Kruegar and his special love of cats. Greg has almost been obsessed with making cat trails throughout his home for his feline companions. He could never really explain his focus before, but now he can. At the age of 49, he was finally diagnosed with ASPERGERS SYNDROME, a form of autism, or Pervasive Developmental Disorder. The diagnosis may explain Greg's focus on making cat trails and love of cats, but it doesn't mean that Greg doesn't like the head he's in. It may mean that those who meet him will get him a little bit better.

If you look at Greg's home, you might think you wandered into cat paradise. There are perches along the trail where cats can observe their kingdom below, they can wander and explore wherever they want along the cat trails, and there are even spaces for solitary refuge, complete with lighting. It's a cat's world, indeed!

Of course, Greg has some carpentry skills, in order to make the almost sculptural trail and also the type of mind that gets how cats like their environment. Plus, many individuals, whom I have met and that have a diagnosis along the autism spectrum, have a great affinity for animals, even more than for people, with whom many find it difficult to understand and communicate. So, working with animals and having animals is a great match, especially for Greg. His love of his cats is expressed in the kitty highway through his home and his ability to cuddle up with his feline friends.
