Music Therapy Across The Border

Finalists in Spark Challenge 2014; in the middle is Daniela.
Daniela Orozco Vizcaino grew up in Guadalajara, Mexico. She made a decision that she wanted to learn about music therapy, so she got her college education at Berklee College of Music where she shared her plans to bring back her new-found knowledge to Mexico, with the idea of showing health care practitioners how music therapy works, with the help of a team of eight music therapy students.

Thus, this plan became a service project. Daniela explains, "The team will provide training sessions in various public hospitals in Guadalajara and also do an inservice for over 200 local doctors, nurses, and musicians so they can learn about music therapy, what research supports it, and why it works."

Now, often enough, when seeds of ideas become planted, the planters generally wonder off back to their regular lives and forget about enriching and spread the idea. But in this case, that isn't happening. Daniela has moved back to Mexico, living in Zapopan, Jalisco. Last year she founded a group, "Interludio", which is designed to help spread knowledge about the healing power of music therapy throughout Mexico.
