Aurora, CO, police vehicle. |
That's what happened in Aurora, Colorado. It started out as an ordinary day for Julia Brecht, an 86-year-old great-grandmother, who is the caregiver for her disabled husband. But once she had headed to the local supermarket, she didn't realize that a thief had targeted her. In-store video shows this man watching her, then charging towards her, grabbing her purse, and dashing out of the store.
Officers Greg Heck and Robert Little responded to the call. One would usually expect the officers to take down the details of the crime and then leave, to resume their patrol. However, that wasn't true of these two officers. They helped Mrs. Brecht cancel her credit cards to prevent further losses and when they found her grocery list, they completed and paid for her grocery order.
While one officer drove Mrs. Brecht home, the other made a stop at a local hardware store and purchased a new lock with keys for the couple. He then drove the woman's car home and installed the new door lock, so the thief couldn't break into the Brecht home. Kudos to these officers for their kindness and compassion!
