The Samaritans365 Foundation

How do we in this society develop the spirit of giving in our children? That's a question two mothers, Laura Reiss and Jennifer Einhorn, asked a few years ago. Both women had several years of success in different career areas. Their vision led to the founding of an organization, The Samaritans365 Foundation, an after school program that focuses on contributing to the community.

Through learning about the different ways in which to make contributions to the local community and beyond, children can develop a sense of compassion and kindness through age-appropriate acts of charity. There are enjoyable hands-on experiences and activities and involvement by community nonprofit groups, which introduce children to their ways of contributing.

So far, more than 500 children have participated in the group's after school programs. Some of the children's accomplishments include helping at a local animal shelter, planting organic gardens, donating hair for cancer organizations, and collecting toys for Christmas for children in low income families, writing letters and making up care packages for forgotten soldiers. They also learn about such organizations as the police and fire departments and animal shelters. Meetings are scheduled once per month, a total of nine times per year. There are even weekend activities in which families can participate.

If you would like to start this kind of group in your community, The Samaritans365 Foundation has planned for that too. Check out their web site here: http://samaritans365.org/. At the top of the page is  a tab "Bring S365 To Your School" where there are three steps listed. Once you have completed them, you can "Click Here To Start a Club".

Just last month, The Samaritan365 Foundation was awarded a grant from The Pollination Project, which the group can use to publicize its programs.
